GraceHaven Tea Session
September 5, 2018Gracehaven Salvation Army Fostering Tea Session
Event Summary:
The event took place on the 2nd of September 2018. The students of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Asia reached out with open arms to facilitate sushi making with foster children of GraceHaven Salvation Army. This event allowed the students to better appreciate the life and circumstances that they are given and incorporate priceless values such as empathy and care for others.
A couple of students who participated gave the following statement:
“Being given the opportunity for the tea session opened my eyes and allowed me to appreciate the little things in life better. The smiles on their faces over an activity as simple as sushi making made the entire session worth it. I was grateful to be among the few helping at GraceHaven. May there be more opportunities for similar sessions in the future!”
– Nursyazana Athirah
“This CIP tea session at Gracehaven was a meaningful one. Being involved in volunteer work before, this is my first time participating one at a foster home. It was a delightful experience to be able to have a sushi making session with the children and it sure is great seeing the smile on their face during the activity. I also knew a lot more about the fostering initiative in place to support fostered children & teenagers through tough times of their life.”
– Cedric Ng
In conclusion, this event is a fruitful one because one small event might actually change the life of the foster children, by putting a smile on their faces and also showing them the communities do care for them. Additionally, it empowers our students with values that lessons cannot teach, empathy and love.
